Heartbeatz works with my Hammerhead Karoo 2, but watch app seems to not update current HR

I notice sometimes while riding that the Heartbeatz app on my Apple Watch series 5 displayed heart rate will stay stuck on a value and not update for several minutes.  I read someone else had this same issue...

  Hi! Make sure that you aren't running any other apps that use heart rate while using heartbeatz. With HealthKit, in order to access heart rate rate data, heartbeatz needs to be the only app using heart rate.
