After stopping the Watch app it records a Workout (Indoor Cycle) to the Apple Activity app. As I am using a Garmin cycling computer this is not wanted.

I tried turning off access to Workouts (Settings >Privacy >Health >heartbeatz).

If I turn off the flag to allow heartbeatz to write data to workouts (OFF - "Allow Heartbeatz To Write Data: Workouts) (ON - "Allow Heartbeatz To Read Data: Active Energy, Heart Rate, Walking Running Distance) then I don’t get a readout on the Watch or the Garmin and no activity is recorded.

Anyone else running into this?

  In order to get access to heart rate data, heartbeatz must start a workout on your AppleWatch.
