Heartbeatz works great with Garmin Edge receiver, but watch app seems to not update current HR

I notice sometimes while riding that the Heartbeatz app on my Apple Watch series 4 displayed heart rate will stay stuck on a value and not update for several minutes.    I have the watch firm against wrist and the Hearbeatz module within 6” of the Apple Watch.   Other than this issue all is working great with the Heartbeatz.

  My heartbeatz has the same issue currently.  I've got a Series 5 Apple Watch on WatchOS 7.5, iPhone Xr on iOS 14.6.  I've noticed on several rides heartbeatz on the Apple watch will get stuck at the same heart rate and not update.  Any ideas how to fix this?  I've got the latest version of Heartbeatz (1.2.2, updated 4 months ago)
